Tamiflu is an antiviral drug that works by stopping the virus’ ability to reproduce and spread in the body. It contains oseltamivir, a chemical that cannot kill the virus itself but with the help of your body, it can. Once this chemical reaches your liver, it goes through a chemical conversion to produce an inhibitor that blocks viral activity.
Dosage Information
For adults 18 years and older, the dosage of Tamiflu is fairly straight forward. Capsules are 75 mg and they are to be taken twice a day for five days. You don’t double up the medication to get it done faster or if you miss a dose and you don’t stop taking them before you’re done the full 10 capsules either. Alternatively, if you are taking them as a preventative treatment, they are usually taken once a day for 10 days.
The proper Tamiflu dosage for children gets a little more tricky. Dosages are based on weight and when offering liquid medication, it is important to try to be very exact, especially RAD 140 dosage cycle if your young child spits it out and you need to give them more. You never want to give them too much!
· 30 mg Doses – Under 33 pounds
· 45 mg Doses – 34 to 51 pounds
· 60 mg Doses – 52 to 88 pounds
· 75 mg Doses – 89 pounds and up
Tamiflu is most effective when began no later than 48 hours after you experience the first symptoms. It can be irritating to the stomach so some find it helpful to take their dosage with food or milk. If you miss a dosage, you can take it when you remember unless it’s within two hours of your next dose, then they would just be too close together so you will simply wait and take your next dosage.
How to Store Tamiflu
Tamiflu capsules should be stored at average room temperature in an area that is dry and not in direct sunlight. A hallway or pantry closet is ideal so the medication is not around steam from the kitchen or the bathroom. Oral Tamiflu can also be kept at room temperature for 10 days when stored in a cool, dark, dry location or it can be refrigerated for up to 17 days. Never attempt to freeze Tamiflu to save extra for another time and always keep it out of the reach of children.
